Jackson Tribute Planned In L.A.

7-02-09mj5

Details are still being finalized, but it looks like downtown L.A. will be site for a memorial to Michael Jackson next week.

After logistics scuttled plans to memorialize the pop legend at his beloved Neverland Ranch near Santa Barbara, CA, representatives of the Jackson family and the city of Los Angeles have settled on a date and place for a celebration of his life. According to RadarOnline, a star-studded service will be held at 10 am, Tuesday, July 7, at the Staples Center in downtown L.A. The floor of the arena will be reserved for family, friends and VIPS, while fans may purchase seats in the stands for $25.

No doubt, fans will howl over having to pay to honor Jackson, but with the city facing serious budget problems, they can’t expect the taxpayers to foot the bill for police protection, crowd control, and all the other things involved in a project this size, especially so soon after the city had to deal with the Lakers’ victory celebration. Hopefully, this memorial will be a fitting tribute to someone so loved by so many.

Happy Birthday, Lindsay!

7-01-09ll

Lindsay Lohan turns 23 today, but she probably already received her best present over the weekend—a big payout just for celebrating!

Page Six claims LiLo scored a whopping $70,000 for hosting an all-day “pre-celebration” pool party at the the MGM Grand’s Wet Republic in Las Vegas  on Saturday. What did the starlet do to earn it? Basically, she modeled five bathing suits and danced to Michael Jackson songs. Nice work!

Linds tried to capitalize on her 21st two years ago, but the scheduled bash at Las Vegas nightclub Pure was derailed by her trip to rehab following two arrests for DUI. She had to settle for a quiet beach party in Malibu (pictured) with family and friends.

If Lohan throws herself a bigger ‘do tonight, at least she’ll be able to pay for the booze.

Angie Rakes In The Big Bucks

7-02-09aj3

Angelina Jolie has beaten out arch-rival Jennifer Aniston again—this time by having a more lucrative career.

Forbes magazine has released its annual list of highest-paid actresses for 2009, and Jolie took the number one spot with an estimated $27 million. Most of that came from the profits of “Wanted” and her advance check for the upcoming spy thriller “Salt.”

Coming in second to Angie (again) was Jennifer Aniston with 25 million. She was certainly well-paid for her work on the hit “Marley & Me and the upcoming “The Baster,” but a big chunk of her total comes from “Friends” and her endorsement deal with Glaceau’s SmartWater.

Rounding out the top ten are Meryl Streep, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cameron Diaz, Sandra Bullock, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Drew Barrymore and Renee Zellweger. Certain tabloid-friendly young actresses should check out this list and notice that, while they may get the media coverage, it’s the serious actresses who make the big money.

Obama Remembers Michael Jackson

6-29-09mj25

One week after the tragic death of Michael Jackson, President Barack Obama has finally spoken out about the pop legend.

In an interview with the AP, Obama stated, “I’m glad to see that he is being remembered primarily for the great joy that he brought to a lot of people through his extraordinary gifts as an entertainer.” The 47-year-old president also commented that he had grown up on Jackson’s music, and “I still have all his stuff on my iPod.”

“I think that Michael Jackson will go down in history as one of our greatest entertainers,” the President added. “His brilliance as a performance also was paired with a tragic and in many ways, sad personal life.”

Kudos to the Prez for reminding all of us what a national treasure Jackson’s music has been, and always will be.

Rowe Seeks Custody

6-30-09mj1

After being absent for most of their lives, Michael Jackson’s ex-wife Debbie Rowe has come forward to seek custody of the children born during their marriage.

The AP reports that one week after the death of the Prince of Pop, Debbie Rowe has stated her intentions to gain custody of 12-year-old Prince Michael and 11-year-old Paris Michael Katherine. Rowe spoke by phone to KNBC in Los Angeles, and also stated that she would try to obtain a restraining order against Joe Jackson to keep him away from his grandchildren. The two kids and younger sib Blanket are now in the custody of Michael Jackson’s mother Katherine.

The question everyone is asking is, why did Rowe suddenly come out with this now? Is it because she was cut out of Jackson’s will and is looking to score more bucks from his estate? Or is she honestly concerned about the kids, especially where Daddy Joe is concerned? Rowe’s attorney today had next week’s scheduled custody hearing postponed  until July 13, so we’ll have to wait to see what her motives really are.
