UDPATE 3: Mistrial! The Jury Is Deadlocked

UPDATE 3: It’s a mistrial. The jurors have been dismissed after they could not agree on a verdict. As it turns out, the jurors were 10-2 in favor of NOT GUILTY! Now we can about our regular Britney business.

UPDATE 2: Jurors have still been unable to reach a verdict and rather than let the case be dismissed, the judge has granted lawyers additional closing statements. In other words, the lawyers get to try and convince the jury one more time! We’ll keep you posted as the details come in.

UPDATE: The jury has been dismissed for the day without reaching a verdict. It has been reported that jurors have been deadlocked at 10-2 but it’s not clear what decision they’re leaning to. We should know more when court reconvenes in the morning.

Don’t start the riots just yet. As Day 2 of jury deliberations in the Britney Spears driving without a license case reaches the half way mark, the Jury has informed the Judge that they are deadlocked. The Judge has asked the Jury to continue deliberating and to choose others to lead discussions. The Jury did ask for clarification on a couple things. They asked why she was pulled over to begin with and clarification on the charges. Stay tuned for details as they come.

    Good question.

  2. gigi Says:

    another day, more money spent

  3. Ronnie Says:

I wonder how much this will end up costing us. Hopefully someone will do an expose of this trial. AM? Sounds like this is right up your alley!

  4. Amethyst Mine Says:

    lol! but,

    Yes.

  5. Amethyst Mine Says:

    I was serious.

  6. Amethyst Mine Says:

They must be back from lunch now right. They would have reconvened at 1:30 p.m.?

  7. Amethyst Mine Says:

Well while waiting … TMZ seems to be laying low of late. They are still snarky in whatever they do say about Brit .. but it’s strange with court being their forte (e.g., getting access to court documents and also to police citations) to be “out of the loop.”

Perhaps it is deliberate on their part this time.

  8. MH Says:

they aren’t out of the loop…. it’s by choice. they give her very little pr anymore, by choice.

  9. Amethyst Mine Says:

Thanks, MH. Tell me why? Please?

  10. Amethyst Mine Says:

Are they laying low for example to avoid scrutiny?

  11. small hands Says:

Oh bring back a “not guilty” already and call it a day. This is beyond absurd.

  12. Amethyst Mine Says:

Could the judge have said, “Case dismissed!” the first time the jury stated a deadlock?

  13. Ronnie Says:

I disagree with you MH. They have indeed made a choice to not cover the Britney case, but it’s not because they don’t want to give her PR. Honestly, why would anyone want to read more about Tommy Davidson or Nick Hogan than Britney?

  14. Amethyst Mine Says:

Hey, MH. What I have noticed is that TMZ has stopped claiming “exclusives” in context to Britney Spears, i.e,:

    “LAPD officials tell TMZ”
    “Law enforcement officials tell TMZ”

and the like. I don’t know who the culprit is behind Britney getting pulled over, and then getting ticket, but… as I understand there was a paparrazo/a who helped (instigated?) with her being charged?

  15. Amethyst Mine Says:

Oh and this one, MH, as an example, re John Eardsley:

“The lawyer who derailed the Britney Spears conservatorship case tells TMZ Britney herself called him and asked him to take the reins.”

    http://www.tmz.com/2008/02/17/lawyer-claims-britney-held-hostage/

  16. Amethyst Mine Says:

One is better off making calls in a case like this.

  17. MH Says:

Hey, I’m just going by what Harvey Levine has said himself on tv regarding giving Britney pr.

I have noticed that there is less Brit on the site and when they do a piece about her on tv lately they’ve been very short and with little effort put in to them compaired to effort put in to other stories.

Just going on what I see and what Harvey has said himself.

Perez does very little on Brit, but that’s a whole other story.

  18. Amethyst Mine Says:

Ronnie and MH, you seem to have insight?

  19. Amethyst Mine Says:

    Thanks, MH.

  20. doc1955 Says:

will a decision be made today?

  21. Amethyst Mine Says:

p.s. not to be a stickler but there is PR and then there is money to be had.

PR comes from the company, the client, or the camp.

In the old days, in the better days, press releases were accompanied by a pitch letter that suggested why the story would be “advantageous” for a journalist to pursue.

Then when the press made the media, it looked like a story written by a “reporter.” With any strategy, the story makes the person or company seem warm, a good doer etc.

TMZ is there to make money. They serve an audience. They do not serve Britney Spears. At least they have stopped using “weavable” in their stories. Not it’s just snarky, “The medicated mother of two” and “We would like to think that” Britney took the kids home for homework and a nutritious snack.

I guess their target audience are those who enjoy snark attacks.

  22. Amethyst Mine Says:

Doc, I am giving up at 4:30 p.m. I think everyone will be dismissed at that time?

mw, free lunch, parking, tax payer dollars.

  23. Amethyst Mine Says:

Doc, why not drive down there, go in the courthouse … no one but JFXOnline ever takes us anywhere.

It could be a unique kind of reporting. A niche.

Absolutely no one could tell the story in your voice. No one would notice the things you do.

    Niche.

  24. Amethyst Mine Says:

X17 has been very nice in their coverage of late.

They applaud Britney, they treat her like they love her (okay except for their photographer testifying and X17 taking its moment in the limelight, whatever).

They show Brit picking up her kids, TMZ shows her bra.

Doc, care to weigh in? aw, somewhere?

    I miss Adnan.

Doc. I am posting too often today. ;)

  25. Amethyst Mine Says:

Goodness. TMZ just gave a neutral report (with no updates — nothing exciting going on over there, other than consistently negative reports have become conspicuous?)

I remember my alphabet very well.

  26. Amethyst Mine Says:

4:33 and there you have it, Doc.

  27. KLM Says:

Wow … it’s been a quiet day here. Really hoping for an answer. This really sucks! The whole thing is just crazy. I can’t think of words to write .. so I’m just being quiet.

  28. small hands Says:

Does anyone have any guesses which way they think the jury is leaning? I’m thinking “not guilty”. Or that is what I hope.
The DA should have given her fine instead of trying to attach the probation and stuff.
If they don’t reach a verdict, will the case be dropped?

  29. gigi Says:

I think a fine is what she should have had also. I’m not sure of the laws in CA so I’m not sure what they will do. Retry her maybe? Ronnie? What do you think? Hopefully they are leaning not guilty.

  30. Ronnie Says:

It ultimately lies with the prosecutors I believe. He can retry her but not likely as Brit’s lawyer will fry him in the press even more so next time around. If the prosecutor is indeed running for office, it might be best for him to let it go. I may be totally wrong though.

  31. Rose Says:

    This is crazy.

  32. Rose Says:

    X17 just said it a mistrial.hell yes

  33. Ronnie Says:

Yup. 10 of the 12 wanted Not Guilty this whole time. Kind of surprising to me as I thought there would be more anti-Britney sentiment in there.

  34. Rose Says:

I am so happy for Britney! dancing I new it would be aok o_o

  35. gigi Says:

Great. Mistrial so now everyone regroups or what? I hope they let it go now and not waste more money on this junk.

  36. Ronnie Says:

Let’s hope so, especially after the 10-2 in favor of not guilty. If it was the other way around, he may have tried it again.

  37. gigi Says:

This is great. Things are looking up. Next up? Is she well enough to be back on her own or does daddy stay in charge? Am I right or is there something else coming up that I forgot about?

  38. Ronnie Says:

Well, Britney’s on the move right now. Hopefully to celebrate!

  39. gigi Says:

Yes she needs to do that and I think she needs a visitor to celebrate with

  40. Rose Says:

    Break open the champagne, y’all!

  41. gigi Says:

its ready and waiting I hope for her. Hopefully by the end of next week she will be on her own again and looking great.

  42. Amethyst Mine Says:

gigi, I think the next court date is the 28th?

I hope Shakespeare is getting all of this.

  43. Amethyst Mine Says:

Thanks for your logic, Ronnie. I forgot the prosecutor was running for a political office.

  45. Amethyst Mine Says:

L.A. Times is saying we should hear about the prosecutor’s decision about a retrial after 1:30 p.m. today.

    http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-me-spears22-2008oct22,0,2702094.story

  46. gigi Says:

Its now 1:30 there right so we should know soon. I hope he just drops it. Give her a small fine and let it go.

  47. Amethyst Mine Says:

I hope the prosecutor had good counsel, at lunch. I would hate for pride to get in the way of his decision.

  48. gigi Says:

I’m thinking that is what has happened already. He saw a chance at being famous for giving her a whopping fine and probation and took it. Hopefully he will rethink that and let it go.

  49. KLM Says:

tmz says it was dismissed and all charges dropped!

  50. Rose Says:

Britney got off!The judge in the trial of the century has dismissed the criminal charge against Ms. Britney Spears.

  51. KLM Says:

AM … who’s Shakespeare? I mean, besides the poet!

  52. small hands Says:

WooHoo! I was right, they were leaning towards “not guilty”. The DA should just drop it the mess already. It looks bad for him. He should have stuck with a fine and called it a day instead of trying to make an example out of her.

  53. Amethyst Mine Says:

    CASE DISMISSED!

  54. small hands Says:

    KLM Says:
tmz says it was dismissed and all charges dropped!
    ——————————–
    Good!

  55. Rose Says:

Well i am glad this is finally over for her.

  56. gigi Says:

I’m so glad it is over. Now lets get on with the c-ship thing and finish with that.

  57. Amethyst Mine Says:
