Barb Wins, Rosie Loses In Ratings

No doubt a lot of folks were too busy stuffing their turkeys or retrieving relatives from the airport to turn on the TV Wednesday night but Barbara Walters did succeed in luring 11.5 million viewers to her her ABC interview special at 10 p.m. Of course, it helped that she had as her guest President-elect Barack Obama. Walters’ former “View”-mate Rosie O’Donnell didn’t fare as well earlier in the evening. Her NBC variety show “Rosie Live” drew a measly 5 million viewers, even less than “Knight Rider” draws in the same 8 p.m. slot. This should prove once and for all that the variety show format is dead and “The Ed Sullivan Show” won’t be back.

A-Rod Bails On Kids For Madonna

NY Yankee slugger and bad dad Alex Rodriguez couldn’t be bothered to spend all Thanksgiving day with his two small children but ditched them to run into the arms of new girlfriend Madonna. A-Rod spent Thanksgiving afternoon having dinner in Miami with ex-wife Cynthia and their daughters Natasha, 4, and Ella, 7 months, but left to spend the evening with the singer at her home on Star Island. If this is what those kids get for the holidays now, I guess they shouldn’t expect daddy to show up for school plays or dance recitals.

Tom’s “Valkyrie” Gets Razzed

Tom Cruise has had high hopes his holiday turkey “Valkyrie” would bring him the Oscar he’s been seeking for so long but it looks like the only awards it will be winning are Razzies for the worst film of the year. The film was an early Razzie pick before anyone had even seen it but with preview audiences laughing at scenes that are supposed to be high drama, “Valkyrie” is looking like the most razzed film of the year. You have to figure that it takes a lot to make people laugh at Nazis.

Miley And Justin Won’t Tell Holiday Plans

They were together for Thanksgiving in NYC but teen superstar Miley Cyrus and her hot hunky model beau Justin Gaston aren’t saying whether they’ll be rockin’ around the Christmas tree together over the holidays? Miley told Usmagazine.com:
“I hope so. I love to spend the holidays with my friends.I think that we are really good friends, and we love hanging out and spending time together.”
Gaston was equally evasive.
“I don’t know where she’ll be, but I hope she has a good time,” he said. “I’ll probably be around somewhere and hanging with the family.”
How romantic. Trying to kiss under the mistletoe with Miley’s parents glaring at you.

Swayze Says Goodbye

Patrick Swayze’s brave fight against cancer may be coming to a sad end. The National Enquirer is reporting that the actor’s pancreatic cancer has spread and he may not have much time left. A souce told the Enquirer:
“Patrick recently got word that the cancer had spread to his liver and that is what his doctors said would begin the countdown to the end. Patrick knew it was coming because he was suffering increased weakness. At times, he was so weak that he could barely walk without feeling faint. Sometimes he feels out of breath and has to sit down.”
The source also reports that Swayze has told his wife Lisa and brother Donny that the end is near.
“Lisa phoned Donny in Los Angeles and told him he need to come to Chicago, where Patrick has been filming TV show The Beast. She was crying and scared Donny to death, Donny got the impression his brother was already on his deathbed because Lisa was saying Patrick wanted to say goodbye. She couldn’t stop crying.”
Swayze had seemed to be making a slow recovery from the illness but if the cancer has indeed spread to his liver, his chances are not good.
