Changes Ahead For “Idol”

A fourth judge isn’t the only change viewers will see when the eighth season of Fox’s “American Idol” begins on January 13. This year will try to present more talent—but will likely have fewer laughs. There will be less time devoted to the trainwreck auditions but the semifinal rounds will feature 36 finalists rather than 24. The “wild card” round will return but “Idol GIves Back” will skip a year. This seems like a shame not to do this charity special in a year when so many people need help.
