Stars Go Green For Obama

Eva Longoria Parker and Lucy Liu are among the celebs who have vowed to support President-elect Obama by making changes in their lives. Reuters reports that Longoria Parker has sworn off plastic water bottles while Liu promises to ride the subway when she visits New York.

In answer to Obama’s call for community service, over 50 Hollywood celebrities have pledged to take positive action in a video from Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore. The video will premiere on MySpace by Monday, the day before Obama’s inauguration.

Kutcher told Reuters, ”There’s an assumption that this one man is going to take on his new job full-time and somehow wave a magic wand of change, and I don’t believe that to be true. I think that we have to be the leaders, and that’s not celebrities—I think that we as citizens have to be leaders of the movement that we want to create.”

This is a nice thought but I wonder how many of the rich and famous are willing to make real sacrifices for the environment—like giving up Lear jets to fly commercial. Or trading in their luxury SUVs for hybrids. That’s the kind of change that would really set an example.
