Falk’s Daughter Files For Conservatorship
The AP reports that Peter Falk’s daughter Catherine has filed papers in a Los Angeles court seeking to establish a conservatorship over the “Columbo” actor.
Catherine Falk claims a conservatorship is the only way to prevent the actor’s wife from blocking her visits. She was granted one supervised visit last month. She claims her 81-year-old father suffers from advanced dementia.
Catherine Falk, a former real-life private detective, was adopted during Peter Falk’s first marriage to Alice Mayo, which ended in 1976. The actor has been married to former actress Shera Danese since 1977.
The AP story states the filing seeks to establish a conservatorship only over Falk, not his estate. A hearing is scheduled for Monday.
Peter Falk and Catherine have clashed over money in the past—in 1992, she filed suit against him for failing to pay her college tuition. In December 2008, the daughter filed a request for power of attorney over her father. Last month, a court-appointed attorney who met with Peter Falk issued a report stating that he believed the actor does not need to placed under a conservatorship.
This family feud has been brewing for awhile and is likely to get even dirtier. While this filing is ostensibly not about Falk’s estate, cases like this seem to always be, ultimately, about the money.
