Jackson Makes Chart History
Even in death, Michael Jackson remains the King of Pop, as he just shattered previous records on the pop music charts.
Jackson albums hold the top nine positions on Billboard’s Top Pop Catalog Albums chart for the week following his sudden death. “Number Ones” takes the No. 1 slot with sales of 108,000, up from 4,000 last week. The pop icon’s solo albums sold a total of 415,000 copies this past week, with digital downloads accounting for 58% of that number. This isn’t surprising, since the amount of Jackson product available in retail stores was very limited.
As new rumors spring up hourly, and his fans remain in the dark about final plans for a funeral, it’s good to remember that the music is why we love Michael Jackson, and that will remain his legacy.
