Portia Stands Up For Right To Marry
Actress Portia de Rossi has been happily married to Ellen DeGeneres since August 2008, but the state of California no longer recognizes their union. The star of “Better Off Ted” took on notorious dingbat Elisabeth Hasselbeck on today’s episode of “The View.” The anti-gay marriage host blathered about the definition of marriage. “Take men and women. Women want all the rights of men, but they’re not asking to be called men. Do you think…is the word [marriage] more important than the rights?”
Portia shot back, “No, of course the word isn’t more important than the rights. Without the word, we don’t have equal rights.” The actress continued, “Every citizen of this country should have that legal right to be married. Marriage the word actually does mean something because people who see a gay coupling as a lesser thing in society can continue to [think] it’s lesser than marriage when really it’s the exact same thing. The exact same love, the exact same commitment, love of family.”
Whether you agree with her or not, Portia is very good at getting her point across.
