Conan’s Big Payoff
Thursday, January 21st, 2010Short-lived “Tonight Show” host Conan O’Brien will have plenty of time to go fishing now —and the cash to finance his vacations. NBC has agreed to pay Conan $33 million to leave “Tonight” after tomorrow’s show, paving the way for longtime host Jay Leno to return March 1.
The deal also includes another $12 mil for Conan’s staff, which relocated from NYC only eight months ago. If the red-haired funnyman gets bored doing nothing, he’ll be free to take another job as of September 1. There’s no word yet which network will hire Conan, as several are rumored to be vying for his services.

Tom, Will Help Conan Go Out In Style
Wednesday, January 20th, 2010This poor guy demonstrating alone outside Universal Studios isn’t the only one on Team Coco. Some of Conan O’Brien’s famous friends have promised to be on hand when the embattled host tapes his final episode of “The Tonight Show” on Friday. One is Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks, who posted this on his Twitter, “Flag on me with CoCo tonight! Going on Friday’s Big Show. What WILL happen? Tune in. Hanx.” Will Ferrell is also scheduled for Friday. This is sure to be the highest-rated show Conan’s had since he took over the desk at “Tonight.”

Conan’s $40 Million Kiss-Off
Tuesday, January 19th, 2010Conan O’Brien may have lost his “Tonight Show” job, but he still has his fans—and a big severance check. Sources reports the short-lived host will leave NBC with a $40 million payoff, including $32.5 mil for himself and $7.5 mil for his staff. Conan will have to leave some of his characters, like Triumph the Insult Dog, behind, but could be available to other networks as early as September 2010. It’s too bad the NBC execs who botched this whole affair so badly can’t be tossed out of the street for their incompetence.

Conan’s Up The River Without A Paddle
Thursday, January 14th, 2010The NBC late-night war is over and Conan O’Brien lost. TMZ revealed today that Jay Leno will be returning to his old job on “The Tonight Show,” leaving Conan out on the cold. This is not exactly surprising, but the cold, cruel way it’s come down has aroused major public sympathy for the fallen host. Conan’s show tonight should be very interesting.

Is Conan On His Way Out?
Friday, January 8th, 2010“Tonight Show” host Conan O’Brien may have lots of time to go fishing in the near future. Rumors are flying that NBC wants longtime host Jay Leno back in his old chair, but no one seems to know exactly where that leaves Conan. The network could just let him go, but according to his contract, the net would be stuck paying him a cool $45 million to vamoose.
A likelier scenario is that Jay would get a new half-hour show airing weeknights at 11:35 PM, while Conan stays on “Tonight,” but his time is cut to an hour. Conan is understandably angry at the way NBC has handled the affair—and isn’t going to make it easy for the net to get rid of him.
