Rich Rockers Hit By Economic Woes

Some of Britain’s wealthiest music makers aren’t as rich as they used to be.
Reuters reports Paul McCartney, Elton John and Mick Jagger are among the celebs who’ve seen their personal fortunes shrink in the last year. A survey in the London Sunday Times claims Elton John’s personal wealth has been cut by more than a quarter to 175 million pounds from 235 million pounds ($342.3 million), mostly due to erosion of investments and large donations to charity.
Paul McCartney saw his fortune decline 12 percent, while Mick Jagger’s dropped 16 percent. Yeah, they’re all still rich, but it just proves the recession affects all of us.

Elton Closes Show

If you want to see Elton John in Vegas, better get there fast. AP reports the legendary singer pop singer will close his Las Vegas Strip show, “The Red Piano,” on April 22, after five years at at Caesars Palace. John’s show has been alternating with other Colosseum headline acts, including Bette Midler and Cher.
The elaborate show combines John’s top hits with lavish video montages by photographer and director David LaChappelle. Tickets for the final shows go on sale Thursday.

Yum Yum And More Yum

Elton John is joining Jerry Garcia, Dave Matthews and Stephen Colbert in becoming Ben & Jerry’s new inspiration for an ice cream flavor. Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road sounds tasty. Eonline.com is reporting that Elton assisted in concocting the new flavor, which consists of “an outrageous symphony of decadent chocolate ice cream, peanut butter cookie dough, butter brickle and white chocolate chunks.” The flavor is limited-edition and will be introduced later this month to coincide with Elton’s first ever concert in the state of Vermont (Ben & Jerry’s home base). Yeah, they had me at “decadent chocolate…” I’m an easy sell.

Sir Elton Visits Barney’s

It was a busy weekend for Hollywood as the Oscars and its accompanying parties ruled the land. None other than Sir Elton John was in town to take in all the shindigs. We caught up with him heading out to Barney’s New York in Beverly Hills with his husband, David Furnish. Maybe they needed some cuff links. Those things are so small, you tend to forget to pack them sometimes. Sir Elton also threw his annual Oscar party/AIDS fundraiser and raised over $5 million. Good for him.
