Oprah Says She Abused Food

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Oprah Winfrey has admitted her distress at getting up to 200 pounds again but on her TV show today, she went into more detail about how she packed on the pounds and what she intends to do about it. In a transcription on her website, Winfrey stated:

“It’s not about the food. It’s about using food – abusing food. Too much work. Not enough play. Not enough time to come down. Not enough time to really relax…I am hungry for balance. I’m hungry to do something other than work.”

The 54-year-old media mogul plans to take more time out from her grueling schedule for herself, including exercise and relaxation. That sounds like a good plan for all of us.

Oprah Named PETA’s “Person Of The Year”

Celeb-baiting animal-rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has named Oprah Winfrey its “Person of the Year.” I suppose that means she’s the richest, most famous person never to have been photographed wearing fur. While Winfrey has not commented on having this great honor bestowed upon her, I feel sure she takes comfort in knowing she isn’t likely to be attacked with red paint or flour every time she heads out the front door.

Those better not be leather sandals she’s wearing in the pic.

Oprah’s Weight Woes

Oprah Winfrey may be the most powerful woman in Hollywood, but she admits there’s one thing she can’t control—her weight. Shopping for a gown to wear to the inaugural ball for Presidemt-elect Obama forced her to face the fact she had packed on 40 pounds, for a not-so-grand total of 200. Oprah discusses her long history of fighting the battle of the bulge in the January issue of O, on sale Tuesday.

“Im embarrassed … I can’t believe that after all these years, all the things I know how to do, I’m still talking about my weight. I look at my thinner self and think, ‘How did I let this happen again?’”

However it happened, Oprah intends to keep up the fight and will devote a show to her struggle on January 5. We applaud her ambition, but this isn’t exactly the best time of year to start a diet. Even if there’s a ballgown involved.

Oprah Has The Power

Multimedia mogul Oprah Winfrey has been name the most powerful woman in entertainment by The Hollywood Reporter. Most of the list was made of execs from conglomerates like  Disney, Sony, NBC, Dreamworks, etc., but a few actresses made the list. Surprisingly few, given the number who have formed their own production companies and assumed more control over their careers. Best-paid actress Angelina Jolie came in at 24, Tina Fey at 51, superstar chef Rachael Ray at 65, and making the list for the first time at the ripe old age of 16, Miley Cyrus. Watch out, numbers 1-99—when she’s 21 she’ll own the world and fire all of you.

The Big Give Goes

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

I didn’t even know this was possible, but I guess if you’re Oprah Winfrey, you can do pretty much whatever you want. Oprah Winfrey has canceled her own show. Yes, she has. Relax, she’s not canceling her daytime TV gig - she’s not stupid, after all. She’s canceling Oprah’s Big Give, which was on ABC on Sunday nights and scored decent ratings. She asked ABC not to renew the show. “We loved that show and absolutely would have loved to bring it back,” ABC entertainment president Steve McPherson said yesterday. “But it was something [Oprah] didn’t want to do.” Well, Oprah leaves when she wants to leave, I guess.
