Patrick Swayze has been fighting pancreatic cancer for over a year, but he refuses to give up and wait to die. Instead, he’s been recording his thoughts on the struggle.

E! News reports the actor’s memoir will be published this fall by Atria Books. The actor and his wife of over 30 years, Lisa Niemi, have been writing the book on their New Mexico ranch. According to the publisher, Swayze reveals “his brave fight against a diagnosis of stage-four pancreatic cancer, from which he has gleaned wisdom and has remained resolutely optimistic.”

Swayze stated, “With everything I’ve been fortunate enough to do in my life, and covering such a wide range of diverse subject matters, I’m told that my story has been inspirational to people. I will write from my heart about these experiences and, aside from the sheer pleasure of doing it, if people happen to garner inspiration from it, or incentive, or find a new way to love, it would be wonderful.”

Swayze’s life has certainly been interesting, so this should be one celebrity autobio worth reading.

Christina Applegate was a guest in today’s Good Morning America and she spoke about her battle with cancer. The Samantha Who? star announced that she had early stages of breast cancer a couple of weeks ago. At GMA Christina revealed to host Robin Roberts (herself a cancer survivor) that she has undergone double mastectomy, even though the cancer was only detected in one of her breasts. “My decision, after looking at all the treatment plans that were possibilities for me, the only one that seemed the most logical and the one that was going to work for me was to have a bilateral mastectomy,” said Applegate. “I didn’t want to go back to the doctors every four months for testing and squishing and everything,” she continued. “I just wanted to kind of be rid of this whole thing for me. This was the choice that I made, and it was a tough one.” Christina had her operation three weeks ago. Her mother, Nancy Priddy, also battled with the disease. Christina is now “100% clear” of the cancer and will undergo re constructive surgery. She will be back filming Samantha Who? next month and she is also set to appear in the TV special Stand Up to Cancer, airing September 5 on ABC, CBS and NBC and raising funds for cancer research.

This is really sad news and quite eye-opening (simply for the fact that she’s also so young). Actress Christina Applegate has been diagnosed with breast cancer, it was reported yesterday. She is currently undergoing treatment and the disease was caught early, so the actress is expected to fully recover, her publicist announced this weekend. The cancer was detected through an MRI ordered by a doctor and is not life-threatening, her publicist also stated. Christina, who is of course best known as Kelly on Married with Children, is set to appear in an upcoming television special, “Stand Up To Cancer,” to raise funds for cancer research.
