Britney: Enough is Enough
Tuesday, November 18th, 2008According to the The Daily Mail, Britney Spears is feeling much like a prisoner sentenced to a never ending jail term. In excerpts from the upcoming MTV documentary, Britney admits that she believes that the conservatorship her Father Jaime Spears holds over her should end. Britney says, “If you do something wrong in your work, you can move on, but I’m having to pay for a long time. I never wanted to become one of those prisoner people. I always wanted to feel free. I think I’ve learnt my lesson now and enough is enough.”
The documentary is set to air November 30 on MTV but it’s likely we won’t see any of this footage as it’s expected that her keepers will yank anything that puts them in a bad light. But how can anyone with control over Britney’s conservator’s ignore these and other statements Britney is reported to have made? “I think it’s too in control. If I wasn’t under the restraints I’m under, I’d feel so liberated. When I tell them the way I feel, it’s like they hear but they’re really not listening,” Britney went on to say in the footage.
Is it truely Britney’s best interest that the Conservator’s have or is it another? Perhaps financial? I know you commentors will have plenty to say on the matter as will I.
UDPATE 3: Mistrial! The Jury Is Deadlocked
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008
UPDATE 3: It’s a mistrial. The jurors have been dismissed after they could not agree on a verdict. As it turns out, the jurors were 10-2 in favor of NOT GUILTY! Now we can about our regular Britney business.
UPDATE 2: Jurors have still been unable to reach a verdict and rather than let the case be dismissed, the judge has granted lawyers additional closing statements. In other words, the lawyers get to try and convince the jury one more time! We’ll keep you posted as the details come in.
UPDATE: The jury has been dismissed for the day without reaching a verdict. It has been reported that jurors have been deadlocked at 10-2 but it’s not clear what decision they’re leaning to. We should know more when court reconvenes in the morning.
Don’t start the riots just yet. As Day 2 of jury deliberations in the Britney Spears driving without a license case reaches the half way mark, the Jury has informed the Judge that they are deadlocked. The Judge has asked the Jury to continue deliberating and to choose others to lead discussions. The Jury did ask for clarification on a couple things. They asked why she was pulled over to begin with and clarification on the charges. Stay tuned for details as they come.
Day 2: Britney Trial
Friday, October 17th, 2008
Day two of the Britney Spears driving without a license case begins today with jury deliberations. The “prosecution” rested its case after calling only one witness to the stand, a California DMV employee who testified that Britney did not have a valid California drivers license. Later, Britney’s father took the stand and testified that Britney is in fact a resident of Louisiana and she plans to move back there as soon as legally allowed due to her child custody arrangement. “Prosecution” also showed Britney’s divorce papers, which showed Britney as listing California as her place of residency as well as her inactive Louisiana voter registration card. We’ll have details as they come.
Jaime Spears Taking The Stand
Thursday, October 16th, 2008
Britney’s father Jaime Spears is about to take the stand in the Britney Spears trial for driving without a license. Jaime walked into the Van Nuys court building a short time ago and is expected to testify that Britney has a valid Louisiana drivers license. Britney’s lawyer is arguing that Britney is a resident of Louisiana and shouldn’t be required to have a California drivers license. Kind of reaching but if it helps her stay out of the slammer, so be it.
Britney Trial Underway - Jury Selected
Thursday, October 16th, 2008The Britney Spears driving without a licencse trial is underway. A jury has been selected and the trial is moving forward. A jury of eight women and four men have been chosen and they will get to decide if Britney should go to prison for 6 months and pay a $1,000 fine or be set free? If that is an option.
Opening statements are set to begin but before the trial got underway, Britney’s lawyer, Michael Flanagan asked the jury “Are there any people in this room who think Britney Spears is an absolute train wreck. 0 being a train wreck, 10 being normal?” Most stayed neutral but one was dismissed for giving a 0. Then prosecutors had the nerve to ask “Does anyone think this is a colossal waste of time?” Naturally, someone said yes and was quickly dismissed. We wouldn’t want a logical person on the jury now would we? And I’m not going to say the prosecutors name and I hope no other blog, news agency or outlets follow suit.
Witnesses will be called to the stand later this afternoon. First up, a representative from the California Department of Motor Vehicles and a photographer who witnessed the accident. Ugh! I’m not sure which photog will take the stand but it does leave me feeling conflicted. Should I chastise this photog for turning against the paparazzi’s biggest cash cow? (And please don’t make fun of the ‘cash cow’ reference) Do I take my hat off to him for doing a civic duty. Well, I suppose I should see see how it goes first before I take him to task. We’ll have updates as we get them.
