Magazine Cover: Michael Phelps On SI
Tuesday, August 19th, 2008The most celebrated Olympian of all time, swimmer Michael Phelps, is the cover boy for Sports Illustrated’s current issue. Michael is sporting all eight of his gold medals around his neck from the Beijing Olympics, just as Mark Spitz did when he won seven golds in the Munich games. Phelps took over Spitz’s record for earning the most gold medals in one Game. He has won sixteen career medals in the Olympics (fourteen of them gold). And according to SI.com, NBC racked up its highest Saturday night rating since 1990 when Michael finally broke Mark’s record by winning his eighth gold. Talk about a phenom! After the Games, Michael’s expected to rake in on endorsement deals. One deal he won’t be making, though, is with Wheaties. Instead of appearing on the Wheaties box, like many past Olympians have done, Michael has decided to go with Kellogs instead. His agent recently told Access Hollywood that he’ll appear on Kellogg’s Corn Flakes and Frosted Flakes cereal boxes beginning in September. Happy Frosted Flakes eating!
