It took her awhile, but Mischa Barton finally thought up an explanation for that little trip to the mental ward last month. The star of “The Beautiful Life” is blaming her freakout on, of all things, her teeth.

The actress told New York Timeout, “Before the show started, I was traveling abroad for contract stuff and I went through a terrible surgery—a wisdom tooth surgery, all four removed. It was a nightmare. I’ve never had surgery before—it all went wrong and I had to have a second surgery and it almost delayed shooting because it was a nightmare to me, because I couldn’t deal with the thought of not getting there on time. So with the travel, and surgery and prep for the show—it was hell.”

So how did this lead to getting locked up at Cedars-Sinai? “I was down in the dumps about everything there for a while. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom about things and have to get the most stressed-out just to feel better again. I got completely stressed-out and couldn’t handle everything, and now I feel really in control.” Given that Mischa’s never seemed to be in control of anything before, let’s see how long this lasts.

Sometime actress Mischa Barton seems to be vying with Lindsay Lohan for the title of Queen of Offstage Drama.  Now her chaotic life has taken an even darker turn.

According to Access Hollywood, Barton is currently in Cedars-Sinai Medical Center under an involuntary psychiatric hold, also known as a 5150. The Los Angeles Police Department was called to her home yesterday afternoon, and assisted the actress with what a spokesperson for the LAPD referred to as a “medical issue.”

This is not going to help Barton’s failing career, especially since she’s missing the premiere of her new film, “Homecoming,” tonight in NYC. Getting locked up in the loony bin when you’re supposed to be working does not look good on your resume.

So what’s Mischa’s problem this time? Drinking? Drugs? Too much partying? Or all the above?

Unemployed actress Mischa Barton has finally found a job. The “O.C.” has-been landed a role on the CW’s drama pilot ”A Beautiful Life.”

The Hollywood Reporter says the show centers on a group of male and female models living together in NYC. Mischa plays Sonja, a fading supermodel trying to stay on top. That should’t be much of a stretch for her.

This sounds like a really boring series. Who wants to watch a bunch of pretty, shallow people sitting around whining about how their life sucks because they didn’t make the cover of Vogue? But whoever it is who watches “The Hills” will probably watch this mess, too.

The latest young ceeb to be getting attention for her scary-skinny frame is unemployed actress Mischa Barton, who looks like she hasn’t eaten since her TV series got canceled. So she sat down and wrote this blog about her pin-thin figure:

“So lately there’s been a lot of crazy press about my weight and just so you guys know I’m happier and healthier than ever so there is no need to worry about me. Things are really well in Mischa world and I’ve just been watching what I eat.

“I still love my pilates and yoga, and have cut back on fatty foods a bit.  My time in India and Paris really just helped me lose a little bit of weight but there’s nothing drastic going on!

“I appreciate the concern, I just wish the press wouldn’t harbor on it as I think it’s very unhealthy for young girls to read about and pay attention to.  To my female fans: Just be happy and secure with yourself and don’t let other people’s perceptions of you dictate the way you live your life.”

Pilates and yoga, eh? Too bad they don’t seem to cause such drastic weight loss in the people who really want to lose it. But I guess she has lots more time to exercise than the rest of us do since she never seems to get any acting work.

Has-been TV actress Mischa Barton got attention the old-fashioned way during NYC’s Fashion Week—by showing up in a transparent dress. Mischa made her entrance at the Miss Sixty show in a flimsy black number that turned shockingly see-through when subjected to photographers’ flash. 

E! reports that Miss Sixty employees scrambled to find suitable garments from the label to cover the actress up, even volunteering their own. This certainly got Mischa attention, but maybe not the kind she was looking for.

A staffer commented, “She’s a royal pain in the ass. We sent all these clothes over and she ends up wearing nothing!”

Hey, maybe she sold the better stuff on eBay to pay her rent. It’s not like she has that regular TV gig anymore.

Rarely-employed actress Mischa Barton is back on the market after getting dumped by her latest rocker beau. The UK Sun reports that Luke Pritchard of the Kooks has kicked the former “OC” starlet to the curb after a few weeks of dating. A source claims:

“She was really smitten. They’d been on nights out in London and really got on. But when she suggested he visit Paris he got cold feet. He said he didn’t think they had a future and it was better they went their separate ways. Mischa was heartbroken.”

Such is the life of a D-list celeb. If she wants attention, she can always come back to L.A. and get arrested again.

Has-been TV actress Mischa Barton finally got a bit of publicity by kissing a female friend on the mouth during her 23rd birthday party. Now she’s trying to milk that small crumb of notoriety for all its worth in her blog. 

“As I’m sure most of you have already seen, I was photographed at my 23rd birthday party engaging in what most of the gossip blogs refer to as a “girl on girl kiss”.  Well I just wanted to take this moment to clear the air by saying that the kiss was purely platonic!  We were joking around and it was taken out of context.

The anonymous female I was photographed with is actually my close friend Irina.  Irina works as a model in Paris and since meeting a few months ago we have been spending a lot of time together.  We share a lot of the same interests and I really enjoy her company.  I guess you can say she’s become my Paris partner in crime!

So no, I haven’t switched teams.  In fact, I have someone else that is keeping me occupied at the moment ; )”

Given the way her “career” is going, I doubt either team really wants her. Wonder how that line of tacky headbands is doing?

Rarely-employed actress Mischa Barton has launched a new business guaranteed to be just as successful as her “acting” career. Barton has a new line of headbands for people who want to look as tacky as she does and have way too much money on their hands. For a hundred bucks or more, you can have something that resembles what you’d get if you glued a bunch of beads on one of those plastic headbands you have left over from junior high. Or an old New Year’s Eve tinsel tiara tied on with ribbon. Happy shopping!

Mischa Barton told People that she thinks being single is great. I wonder if that is because she no longer is deemed interesting enough to be a paparazzi target or because she finally has time for her acting career. And by career I mean time for herself. Because really now, after The O.C. she pretty much fell off the mark and I don’t think we’re all that interested in having her back in the spotlight. Well, maybe if she dropped all those ridiculous 70’s hippie outfits she loves to rock around town. Who knows?

Hey, I don’t care where MIscha Barton is, but her director does. The O.C. star was recently in Cannes to promote her new film, You and I, but she missed out on all her scheduled press. She’s now in London for more promotional stuff, but her director can’t find her! The film’s director, Roland Joffe, had this to say to Page Six: “She hasn’t pulled out of interviews, she’s pulled out of everything. … Her room is here, she is here, but trying to get the two together has just been impossible. We just don’t know where Mischa is.” Missing out on your own press events and confusing/pissing off your director’s probably not a good idea. It’s not as if Mischa’s career is going through the roof these days. Get your arse to the press interviews, Mischa!

Mischa Barton, the former star of Fox’s The O.C. pleaded no contest for her drunken driving arrest last December in West Hollywood. Mischa didn’t attend today’s hearing, but her lawyer attended on her behalf to enter no-contest pleas to misdemeanor driving under the influence and driving without a license. I really hope this trend of reckless and drunken driving in the young Hollywood community stops. Yeah, it’s amusing to see these celebs and their horrible mug shots, but they’re lucky their lives have been spared. And how about the other drivers and pedestrians roaming the streets? Okay, I’ll stop sounding like your mother now. Mischa will have to attend alcohol education classes, will be fined and put on three years’ probation.

Ok, it might not be what she’s used to driving but we got shots of Mischa driving a golf cart on the Los Angeles set of “This is not Miami” and she seemed thrilled to be behind the wheel at last. I’m not sure if Mischa’s breaking any laws considering she didn’t have a valid drivers license when she was arrested for DUI and narcotics possession last month but hopefully someone advised her before she jumped behind the wheel. Her passengers look a bit concerned to be riding with Mischa though. The guy in the passenger seat looks like he’s holding on for dear life and having a heart attack at the same time! If it’s privacy a celebrity wants, they definitely don’t go to lunch at the Ivy on Robertson Blvd. Nope, certainly not. Thus, when Mischa Barton walked her pretty little self out of the restaurant yesterday, she was swamped by fans, curious folks, and of course, the paps. No worries, though, because Mischa was all smiles and posed for a few pictures. I was trying to figure out what else Mischa’s done besides The OC and I found out that she recently finished getting a DUI. Kidding. Okay, she’s working on a couple of movies, not any big-budget films, but she’s busy in 2008. Just as long as she’s not drinking and driving, everyone will be very happy. According to PageSix.com, Mischa Barton has canceled her scheduled hosting duties for the Las Vegas club opening of Cathouse. Mischa’s management team has been putting in some O.T. trying to control the aftermath of her recent DUI and narcotics arrest. It’s no big surprise that Mischa’s people thought that being seen dancing around a bunch of drunk people a few days after her arrest would look bad in the judges eye. Expect Mischa to voluntarily enter rehab in the next few weeks ala Lindsay Lohan as I’m sure her PR peeps are studying up on how Lindsay managed to walk away from her mess with a slap on the wrist.
