Iron Man 2 began shooting yesterday and I couldn’t help but reminisce about my experiences from the first set, but that’s another story. So yesterday, we managed to grab some pics and video of just about everyone EXCEPT Mickey Rourke and Scarlett Johansen. Robert Downey Jr., Jon Favreau, a quick glimpse of Gweneth Paltrow, Sam Rockwell and even Gary Shandling. RDJ was walking around set with a prop Iron Man 2 lunch box which I can only assume is full of cigars as he puffed away while being chauffered around in his Bentley. RDJ is the man for sure.

Strolling across the set of “Iron Man 2,” now filming on location in Los Angeles, Robert Downey Jr. got a lift from a pair of very high-heeled boots. How’s the weather up there?

It’s another sign the economy sucks when movie studios are pushing back the release of films with A-list stars and cutting back their output. Beset by budget problems, Paramount is pushing back “The Soloist” starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr. from Thanksgiving to March and Daniel Craig’s “Defiance” from December to January. Representatives of the studio told the L.A. Times that studio would release no more than 20 films next year. Hard times tend to make audiences long for lighter, frothier fare from Hollywood—can we expect a sequel to “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” in 2009?

Ben Stiller’s most recent creation, Tropic Thunder, is not getting thunderous applause from some disability groups. In fact, there’s quite a number of them boycotting the movie. The film, which is about a bunch of actors who go into the jungles to shoot a film and end up getting lost (it does sound kind of funny), is being criticized for using the word “retard” too much when referring to one of the character’s character. The coalition of 22 groups, including the Special Olympics, the Arc of the United States and the National Down Syndrome Congress, launched a nationwide boycott of the film -which opens for wide release Wednesday. Last night at the film’s premiere, many folks picketed outside the Mann Bruin in Westwood, right along where many of the movie’s stars walked the red carpet. Ben, of course, defends his film: “It’s sort of edgy territory, but we felt that as long as the focus was on the actors who were trying to do something to be taken seriously that’s going too far or wrong, that was where the humor would come from,” he told MTV News. We’ll just have to see if the boycott worked after the weekend box office results.

Iron Man star and ex-Hollywood druggie Robert Downey Jr. is thanking fast food giant Burger King for helping him beat his addiction to drugs. “I have to thank Burger King,” he recently told Britain’s Empire Magazine. “It was such a disgusting burger I ordered. I had that, and this big soda, and I thought something really bad was going to happen,” he recalled about one specific night. Robert said he then tossed all his drugs into the ocean and decided right then and there to clean up his act. And who knew a Whopper had that much power? Robert then explains that a scene in his new hit movie Iron Man refers to his past experience. In one scene his character Tony Stark requests a cheeseburger from Burger King after being released from his captors. Hey, whatever works, I always say. Hollywood and all his fans are certainly happy to welcome Robert Downey Jr. back into the limelight. Thank you, Burger King!

Our great photogs got up close on the set of The Soloist, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx. The two stars were caught shooting and preparing for a few scenes yesterday, as they filmed on the streets of downtown Los Angeles. Jamie plays a musical genius who becomes homeless in L.A. and is befriended by a journalist (played by Robert). It looks like Jamie’s going for another Oscar with this role. Maybe that’s his specialty – playing musicians of some sort. He’s sure come a long way from playing Wanda on In Living Color (although that’s by far still my fave Jamie Foxx role). I do think he’s a better dramatic actor than comedian. At any rate, we have tons more pictures of these two true thespians filming in the city of angels for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy.

This sounds like an Oscar contender right off the bat. Our photogs were at the set of The Soloist, starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr. The movie is a true story about musical prodigy Nathaniel Ayers who developed schizophrenia in his second year at Juilliard. Ayers ends up homeless on the streets of downtown Los Angeles, where he plays his cello and violin. Steve Lopez, a Los Angeles Times columnist, writes about Ayers and the two strike up a friendship. Robert is playing Steve Lopez’s character and Jamie plays Nathaniel Ayers. I read on Variety.com that Jamie’s actually learning to play stringed instruments from a cellist with the L.A. Philharmonic for this movie. That’s called dedication to his role, ladies and gents. I’m glad to see Robert Downey Jr. looking healthy (albeit the fake blood all over his face) these days. It looks like Robert Downey Jr.’s finally starting to enjoy the finer things in life. The finer things in life looks like an In-N-Out Double-Double’s though because it looks like RDJ has been packing on some extra lbs around the middle. We caught up with RDJ and his wife Susan as they took a romantic stroll on a Miami boardwalk after exiting a taxi from their home. We’ll next see RDJ in the comic book movie, Iron Man.
