No Topless Scenes For Dakota

Friday, January 29th, 2010

“The Runaways” is getting a lot of attention for its girl-on-girl kiss by stars Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning, but if the director had her way, the film would be even raunchier than it is! Floria Sigismondi revealed to the L.A. Times that she was restricted in some scenes because at 16, Fanning is still considered a minor.

“If I used an 18-year-old, I could’ve maybe had her topless … just to give it a little more reality.” She also faced challenges in filming the girls’ passionate kiss. “The challenging part was all the rules. One person can be on the bed; the other person can’t.” The film is rated R—which means Dakota isn’t old enough to see it in theaters!

Real Runaways Got No Respect

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

The new film “The Runaways” is getting rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival, but the real-life group of teen rocker girls weren’t taken seriously when they started out in the music business. Founding member Joan Jett recalled the dissing she and her bandmates received at the hands of male musicians back in the 70s.

“It was initially kind of laughing, like that kind of smiling, going, ‘What are you doing? You can’t do this. Girls don’t play rock ‘n’ roll.’ And when they saw were really serious about it, the attitude kind of changed. Anything from really just insulting and dirty, nasty things. Calling us names, every name that you can call a woman. Just stupid things. Bands feeling threatened by us.”

There’s definitely still prejudice out there today, but I hope today’s budding female rockers can appreciate how Joan and The Runaways paved the way for them!

“The Runaways” Are Coming

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

The film “The Runaways,” which chronicles the ups and downs of the 70s all-girl group, is already getting some major buzz. Yesterday the indie pic was acquired by distributor Apparition, who plan to release the film March 19.

Why so much interest a month before the movie is set to debut at the Sundance Film Festival? Probably because it features Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning, two of the stars in the red hot “New Moon.” So will legions of Twihards descend on Park City, Utah, next month? Only if their folks let them miss school!

Kristen Freaked Out Producers With New Hairdo

Friday, November 20th, 2009

When Kristen Stewart used her break between “Twilight” projects to shoot “The Runaways,” she changed more than characters. To portray punk rocker Joan Jett, K-Stew swapped the flowing locks she wore as Bella for a dyed black shag. RadarOnline reports the actress was fine with the change, but the producers of the vampire franchise weren’t so sure.

“I knew I could still play Bella and not have to feel the sweat running down my head to make me feel I was doing something real. I knew I could wear a wig and still play her. And I knew if I was going to fit ‘The Runaways’ into this time frame that they were going to just have to deal with it.” Kristen did manage to placate the nervous “New Moon” execs.

“That was something they were initially scared about, but it ended up being totally fine. And it gave me an opportunity to do something different in between. Hopefully people can understand that.” Smart girl—you don’t want to get typecast at 19!
