The British tabloids are reporting that Winona Ryder’s in-flight medical emergency was caused by an overdose of Xanax.  Ryder allegedly took the anxiety-relieving pills to combat her fear of flying. She collapsed twice on a British Airways flight from L.A. to London and was rushed to the hospital upon landing.

What happened to just getting drunk on planes? Especially since you’re stuck in a moving cocktail lounge where you can’t get up and leave.

Winona Ryder was briefly hospitalized after falling ill on a British Airways flight from L.A. to London. A spokesperson for the airline issued a statement:

“The captain of BA 282, which was traveling from L.A. to Heathrow, requested a priority landing as a female passenger required medical attention…The passenger was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The plane touched down shortly before noon U.K. time.”

Ryder was released from the hospital after a short period. Her publicist Mara Buxbaum said ”She’s fine now,” but declined to reveal any details of Ryder’s illness. We’d make a joke about airline food if they still served any.
